“Money's too tight to mention
Oh mo-ney mo-ney mo-ney mon-ey
Mo-ney's too tight to mention
I can't even qual-i-fy for my pension”

In these current financially tight times, the CurryCouncil decided to follow the wise words of Mick Hucknall and his Simply Red classic from 1985 for the November (2010) curry.

The Khandoker in Bramhall were celebrating their birthday with a “Khandoker Brings Back The 80s” special discounted offer for the whole of November.

Bring Back The 80s
In a show of solidarity with austerity Britain, the CurryCouncil decided to tighten their purse strings (and loosen their belts) and sample the food at the Khandoker and their rolled back 1983 prices.

Pops at 25p, starters at £1.95, main courses at £4.95, side dishes at £1.25, rice 75p, chapati 15p, naan 25p and chips at 35p…………………..the CurryCouncil therefore decided to fill their boots with a large variety of the dishes available on the special 1980’s menu.

Jord misinterprets Cameron's talk of the double dip
The recently opened Khandoker restaurant has an ‘up-market’ feel with its bright and modern interior.  The large menu offers a mix of classical and Bengali cuisine.

The CurryCouncil were seated at a large, circular table at the back corner of the restaurant. The table location was perfect for our often loud conversation and had just enough space for Bean to get out his I-pad and bore us with the latest flight prices to Timbuktu or his latest favourite destination for the next "fantasy" CurryCouncil lad’s trip abroad.

The Khandoker review is now over two months overdue thanks to Dave being too busy (e.g. sleeping in his loft room and repeatedly watching his Stockport County greatest goals DVD) to do the review as promised.

Therefore, it’s now quite difficult to offer a fair review of the food and service that was on offer at the Khandoker.  We aim to return to this restaurant in the near future to sample the full menu and to try some of their speciality dishes.

Chicken Madras 80's prices

Classic main courses of Madras and Rojan Josh were eaten by all and had a true 80’s feel with the sauce consistency and taste being reminiscent of a traditional BIR (British Indian Restaurant) dish.  The portion sizes were adequate, although we certainly could not grumble at the low prices.

£83.05 bill
The low prices on offer resulted in a super low £15 per head bill, which included a couple of pints each of the less frequently available and thirst quenching Bangla Beer.

The planned December 2010 curry didn’t actually materialise and this is the final review for 2010.

We hope soon to announce the winner of the CurryCouncil "Restaurant Of The Year A-ward" for 2010 – so watch this space!

Coming Soon ........ Restaurant Of The Year

It’s almost that time of year again folks and the CurryCouncil are set to honour their favourite restaurant of 2010.

The "Restaurant Of The Year Award" is an accolade created by the CurryCouncil to recognise the culinary achievements of our local restaurants in the Cheshire and Manchester region.

The annual award honours the best restaurant visited by the CurryCouncil during 2010 as voted by the currycouncil members. Each restaurant is rated by the currycouncil in the following areas: Atmosphere, Value For Money, Originality and most of all; exemplarily Food and Service.

The winning restaurant will be presented with a custom made glass award trophy inscribed with their name, award category and the famous CurryCouncil logo.

The countdown has begun and you can look forward to the winner being announced early in February.
